About the ARTIST

Rajkumar’s paintings comprise a niche on their own, a pictorial space where self-rendered non-objective entities are juxtaposed with recognizable simple forms. Working on canvas, hand-made paper and even bits and pieces of newspaper, Rajkumar employed various techniques while creating his pieces. His works span across three decades of experimentation, going from bold brush strokes, lines and working with a strong motif of cubes in predominantly fauvist shades, or a series on owl and owlets, to a perceptibly deconstructed abstract form in his later works, including staining and damping of the surface of his canvas and wiping away paint or breathing life into uniquely structured shapes, applying broad marks, ink brayer or even his finger tips. Rajkumar’s philanthropic outlook, brewed with a sense of alienation and anxiety blooms through his spectacularly chosen shades of acrylic, pastel and atmospheric colours, reflecting the subconscious and striking right at the awkward interface of the surreal and the earthly.

Rajkumar’s paintings have been exhibited around India, in various solo and group exhibitions over the last couple of decades, yet a major part of his work remains relatively underexplored.
